We often think about leaders in relation to hierarchy or power. While there can be great power in leadership, in my view, what defines us as leaders isn’t title or position, but rather our capacity to create meaningful impact and change for ourselves and others.
Intentionally or not, as leaders our thoughts, decisions, actions and ways of being create a ripple effect touching, influencing and at times transforming the lives of those around us. There is undeniably power in this. And as the saying goes, with great power comes great responsibility.
Whether we spend our time creating shareholder value or creative masterpieces, directing a non-profit agency or an orchestra ensemble, or offering wisdom to patients, parents or highly skilled practitioners, because we possess the power to inspire, support, and catalyze change, how we show up as leaders matters.
